Can you believe it's almost December? I can’t. This year has really flown by, but it was so much fun because we had something to look forward to each month. The 2023 Year of Spools BOM is coming to an end and I am so sad. This has truly been so much fun and I look forward to seeing everyone’s blocks each month. I hope you have enjoyed this BOM, too! Don’t worry– there will be a 2024 monthly BOM! Next week I will start designing all the blocks for the 2024 monthly BOM. It’s going to be SEW much fun. (That’s a little hint there. You're welcome!)

I am so excited to reveal the December block, Sew Festive. This block features a darling Christmas tree with a bow and the spool as the trunk. Isn't it so cute? If you know me, then you know that I love to add bows to everything. When designing this block, I knew it needed to include a bow. I also love this block because it is simple to make. This time of year is busy for everyone, so I wanted to make sure you were able to squeeze it into your schedule. I can totally see multiples of this block as a larger holiday quilt.
I have had some questions regarding if I can design a few extra substitution blocks for April, July, and December so they do not go with a specific holiday. I understand not everyone celebrates the same holidays and I don't think I made this clear in the beginning, but unfortunately my schedule will not allow for me to design substitution blocks at this time. I apologize to those of you that have been asking because you do not celebrate the holidays. I will make it more clear in my future BOMs. The monthly calendar BOMs will go off the months and holidays I celebrate here in America. Thank you for understanding. You will find a 9-block setting in the Additional Settings PDF so you can omit the 3 holiday-specific blocks.
2023 Year of Spools Finishing Settings:
I’ve been mentioning this all year, but it's almost time to turn those blocks into something cute! I will be releasing the final 2023 Year of Spools Finishing Settings on December 5th. Stay tuned for several fun quilt patterns and projects to use up those cute blocks. I will also include the 12-block main quilt finishing setting in the Finishing Settings. This will be a PDF available to download right here on my blog. Stay tuned!
Until then, here is the December block, Sew Festive mocked up in one of the settings from the Finishing Settings PDF. Now, I think I'm going to have to make this quilt! I love that you can mix and match blocks or use all the same blocks to make a beautiful quilt. You can also make the same style of quilt with nine blocks.
