Flower Stand BOM | Month 1 Kickoff

Are you as excited as I am to start the Flower Stand BOM?? I thought this day would never come. After a few delays, we are ready to get started. But first, I wanted to talk a little bit about what the Flower Stand BOM is. The Flower Stand BOM is a new kind of interactive Block of the Month experience filled with many surprises that make it more exciting to work on the quilt than traditional BOMs. This unique BOM was designed with YOU in mind and features my new fabric collection, Flower Girl from Moda Fabrics. Each month during the Flower Stand BOM, you will receive a special “Flower Stand Flower Pack” envelope filled with the month's block patterns, links to step-by-step tutorials to walk you through each block, chances to enter monthly giveaways, live videos with Heather herself, and some special surprises sprinkled in along the way. But wait, I have more! Each month, several lucky participants will randomly receive a “Golden Flower” ticket to redeem for a BIG special prize. There are so many chances to win during this BOM. This BOM Experience is like no other and only offered by Heather Briggs of My Sew Quilty Life. Ok, now let's dive into the fun!

Flower Pack - Month1

What are you waiting for! Go ahead and open those Month 1 Flower Packs and check out all the goodies inside. This Flower Pack is rather large because I just had so much to give you to get the BOM kicked off. Not every Flower Pack will be this full, but trust me, they all will be just as good. I won't go into all the details and spoil the goodies, but I wanted to point out some very important things. See below:

Communication Card:

It is very important that you scan the QR code on the Communications card and sign up for the exclusive Flower Stand BOM Emails. This will be the best way for me to communicate to everyone that is participating in the BOM.

Bingo Card:

We are playing a little game of Flower Stand Bingo! Check off each bingo square as you complete the task throughout the BOM. At the end of the BOM, you will be able to submit how many bingos you received for entries to win fun prizes. The Bingo squares have activities that prompt you to stay on track each month or that go with the goodie in the monthly Flower Pack. It's going to be a lot of fun!

Flower Shop BOM:

If you are loving the Flower Stand BOM, scan the QR code on the back of the Flower Shop card to read more about the Flower Shop BOM starting this November. You won't want to miss it! The Flower Shop uses my next collection, Dainty Meadow. Click the link below to check out all the details and to see which shops have kits for preorder.

Welcome to the cutest flower shop in town! Peek through the shop’s windows to see displays of blooming flowers and adorable pots. Blossoming flowers in window boxes, stately topiaries, bright banners, and sweet signs beckon you inside the store for an afternoon of leisurely shopping. You’ll love stitching this Flower Shop quilt together block by block!

Month 1 Giveaway:

Scan the QR code on the Month 1 Giveaway card to enter the Month 1 Giveaway. It's simple–all you do is fill out your information and you are entered. The Month 1 Giveaway deadline is now on May 24, 2024. Please disregard the date printed on the card.

Golden Flowers:

42 Golden Flowers were randomly placed in 42 Flower Packs. These Golden Flowers unlock special monthly prizes. In 6 random Month 1 Packs, there were 6 Golden Flowers. Only 4 have been spoken for so far. Be sure to check your Month 1 Flower Packs to see if you are a lucky Golden Flower Recipient. If you are, please send me a picture of the back of the Golden Flower with the number.

YouTube Live Call:

To kick off the new BOM month, I will be hopping on my Youtube channel for a Live call. During this Live, I will go over the BOM, open the monthly Flower Pack, answer questions, and announce any changes or new things. Our first YouTube Live is May 10, 2024 at 4pm EST. I know some of you may not be able to join at that time, but rest assured, the Live will be recorded and available for replay after. I hope you can join. I hope to be able to change up the times of these every month. Vote below for the best time that works for you!

What time works best for you?

  • Morning 9am EST - 12pm EST

  • Afternoon 1pm EST - 4pm EST

  • Evening 5pm EST - 8pm EST

  • Night Owl 9pm EST - 12am EST

Month 1 Blocks:

This month we are making Blocks 1 and 2. They are so darn cute! Block 1 features flowers bursting with sweet colors and standing tall, just waiting to be picked for a bouquet. Block 2 showcases three lovely tulips displayed in mason jars with embroidered details.

Flower Stand Kits:

Are you still looking for a kit or for the BOM patterns? Check out the list of shops on my website with kits still available. I will try to keep this list up to date as possible.

If you prefer to purchase just the BOM Flower Packs (patterns + goodies), I still have a few left in my shop. Once I sell out of the Flower Packs, no more will be created. Only the 6 block patterns + the finishing pattern will be available. No goodies will come with them for you to be able to participate in the BOM experience.

Schedule:

Just a quick reminder, the schedule has been pushed back. Month 1 now starts on what was originally month 2’s date. See the schedule below:

Tutorials:

Scan the QR code on the back of your Month 1 pattern or head on over to the My Sew Quilty Life YouTube channel to get access to the Flower Stand BOM Month 1 Blocks 1 and 2, the Hand Embroidery, and the Preprinted Panel Cutting tutorials. For each new BOM month, the block tutorials will be released. Month 2 tutorials will be released on June 7, 2024.

Cutting Fabric/ Cut List:

I have had a few people ask me about the best way to cut their fabrics so they can ensure they have enough fabric to last the entire BOM. Many of the fabrics are ⅛ yard cuts, which seem very small. The pieces are small, too, and I think you will find that as long as you are cutting your pieces neatly and as close together as possible, you will have more than enough fabric. I recommend cutting your fabrics starting at a top or bottom edge, and if the pattern calls for similar pieces, try cutting them all together. I DO NOT recommend cutting a WOF strip as not all pieces will be the same size throughout all the blocks.

At this time, I do not have a cutting list for you to cut out all your fabric at once. It would take me many weeks to develop this and then edit it to make sure it is correct. I just do not have the time to get this released for you. Also, every fabric kit is different–some participants received a monthly installment of the fabrics, which would be cut differently than those that received full kits. I can assure you that as long as you cut neatly, you will have enough, even for little mistakes. I have made a note for the next BOM and will have a cut list for you to cut efficiently.

See some diagrams below on Fabric Cutting Best Practices:

Hand Embroidery + Pre-Printed Panel:

The Flower Stand quilt does feature some simple hand embroidery. There is a paper template in your Month 1 Flower Pack. I recommend making all the hand embroidery at one time to get it out of the way, so all you have to do is assemble your blocks each month. The hand embroidery is super simple and beginner-friendly. Believer it or not, but when I made the Flower Stand quilt, I had only previously hand embroidered a handful of times. I have a Hand Embroidery Tutorial going over what you need, the steps, and some helpful tips.

If you are completely against hand embroidery, don’t worry and don't let it hold you back from making this beautiful quilt. There are a few options for you. You could replace the words with your favorite prints, write the words with a permanent marker, or I have a preprinted panel in my shop that is ready to be cut down and assembled into the quilt. I am using the Pre-printed panel in my second quilt (the quilt I am making in the tutorials). I also have a tutorial on cutting your Pre-printed panel. Check out the Flower Stand Pre-printed Panel in my shop.

Coordinating Products: Needle Minder and Cross Stitch

Do you love the Flower Stand quilt as much as I do? Well, I have great news, I have a few coordinating projects in my shop. Love cross stitch? Pick up the Flower Stand Cross Stitch Pattern, available in PDF and paper versions. Follow along with the Flower Stand Quilt BOM schedule and you will be finished with the cross stitch in no time.

Also, grab a Flower Stand needle minder to keep your needles in check, whether you are making the cross stitch, binding your Flower Stand quilt, or you just want a matching needle minder.

FAQ:

I will update this each month as I get questions.

Will the patterns be available after the BOM has started/ended?

Yes, the patterns themselves will always be available, but once I sell out of the Flower Packs (patterns + all the goodies), only the Patterns themselves will be available.

Can I use different fabrics and where are the fabric requirements?

Yes, this quilt looks amazing in different fabrics. Several people are sewing from their stash. The fabric requirements are located on the Flower Stand BOM webpage:

Will Flower Shop BOM in November using your Dainty Meadow fabric have the BOM experience included?

No, unfortunately, due to many reasons, the BOM Experience will not come with the patterns in Flower Packs. If you would like to be a part of the experience, it will be offered as an add-on membership in the fall. Here is more info about what the BOM Membership Experience:

What if I am missing a fabric in my kit?

Please contact the shop you purchased the kit from and let them know.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

Contact customerservice@mysewquiltylife.com with any questions or concerns.

What if I cannot keep up?

No worries–you can go at your own pace. Just be sure to open your monthly envelopes each month as there are some dated materials that have important deadlines. Feel free to skip around making your blocks as well. If you are intimidated by a block, move to the next one and then go back when you are more comfortable

I hope you enjoy this BOM Experience I have created for you.

Happy quilting,

Heather
