I’m so excited to introduce the new Year of Spools August Block, Sew Sunny. We couldn't have a Year of Spools Block of the Month without sunflowers. Sunflowers are my absolute favorite late summer flower. I know several of you will be excited that the theme is sunflowers, too.
When I used to live in Kansas, you knew when it was sunflower season because they were everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. I’ve never seen so many sunflowers. (That’s why it’s called the Sunflower State.) Kansas has the most beautiful wild sunflowers. Everywhere you look is covered in yellow. Don’t believe me? Go visit Kansas mid-August through late-September. You'll be in for a treat!
Not only does Kansas have wild sunflowers, but many farmers also have sunflower farms and those are a lot of fun. Have you ever been in a field of sunflowers? It's magical! Back when I used to be a newborn and family photographer, I took my clients to the Grinter Farms Sunflower Farm and the pictures always turned out so beautiful. One thing I always loved was that they follow the sun throughout the day so we got to explore the sunflowers and take pictures in a different spot every time. It was so fun.

The picture to the right was my good college friend, Calista and I taking a selfie while we waited for my next client to arrive. We were such babies!

Check out the ring in the bottom left picture. Isn't it beautiful? It was from an engagement photoshoot. The sunflower petal made the perfect spot to showcase the ring.
