The May block is now available. I told you it would be blooming with cuteness. I'm combining two of my favorite things here, sewing and flowers. April showers bring May flowers! Have you ever heard of that saying? I'm sure you have. I knew May would be the perfect month to include flowers in our Year of Spools series. I just love how the spools create flower pots for the blooming flowers. I will film the Sew Bloomy tutorial in the next few days and get the tutorial out as soon as I can. This one is an easier block, in my opinion, so I doubt you will even need the tutorial. It's been so crazy over here I haven't had a chance to film it yet. For my Sew Bloomy Block I used the Country Rose fabric collection by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. I think I have decided to use this collection in most of my blocks so they are consistent with put into the 12 block main quilt.
Fabric Requirements:
White: 1/4 yard
Pink: 1 - 10" x 10" scrap
Grey: 1 - 10" x 10" scrap
Yellow: 1 - 5" x 5" scrap
Other Ideas:
For my block I decided to make the inside of the spools blue. I left them blank so that you could add anything you would like in order to personalize you block. An idea would be to embroider the letters M-A-Y in each of the spools. Another idea would be to English Paper Piece and cut out a square for the spools. Feel free to share your ideas in the comments.

Year of Spools BOM:
I am so excited to announce my new BOM Sew Spool Series called, Year of Spools. This BOM series will feature a monthly themed block incorporating a spool into each block. Each month I will release the PDF pattern instructions for the block and in December 2023 I will release some fun free settings for you to turn your blocks into a quilt or other fun quilty projects. Since I’m starting this now, I realize that I have missed the January block. I will release the January 2023 block when I release the December 2023 block and settings, so you will have a full set of 12 blocks. I’m really excited about this BOM and I cannot wait to see my Year of Spools quilt come together this year.
Here’s how it will work:
Each month (or a couple of weeks before the new month) I will release a 14” finished themed monthly spool block pattern that will be available as a low priced PDF on my website. In my monthly newsletters I will announce when each block will release and maybe even show a little sneak peek of the block. We will have to see. I will also announce each new block on my Instagram and Facebook page right before it releases. You can collect all of the blocks or just your favorites, is up to you. This is a fun low pressure BOM!
